IRHA to Host 2018 Atlantic Canada Equestrian Championships - Reining - Canceled

Post date: Apr 10, 2018 11:25:09 PM

Update:

Unfortunately the 2018 ACE Reining Championships that were to be held September 8/9 have been canceled.

While this is disappointing for those that planned to attend, we do hope that this time can be used to plan for a bigger, better 2019 ACE Reining event.

The IRHA(WHA) show that is scheduled to run that weekend (September 8/9) will go ahead as planned - just without the ACE-designated classes. Everyone is welcome.

The Island Reining Horse Association (IRHA) is pleased to be hosting this year's Atlantic Canadian Equestrian (ACE) Reining Championships on September 8th & 9th at the Crapaud Agriplex, Crapaud PEI. The Atlantic Canadian Equestrian Championships are comprised of four disciplines each hosting their own event; dressage, horse trials, jumper and reining. Events are held each year during the late summer/early fall and welcome team and individual competitors from each Atlantic province.

This event is pivotal in the development of our next generation of equestrian athletes at the national and international levels. This event affords an opportunity for athletes in the "Train the Competitor" stage of development to test their skills with their competitive peers from the Atlantic region, while at the same time providing an avenue for talent identification. Horse and rider teams will participate in qualifiers throughout the spring and summer for a place on their provincial teams. The championships bring provincial teams together to test their skills against fellow Atlantic competitors.

Each province can submit up to two teams (a one handed team and a two handed team) to the ACE Reining Championships or send individuals. Teams consist of 4 horse/rider pairs, with a minimum of 3. Each competitor will compete in their designated two classes - one Saturday and one Sunday. Placings are given for each class, and overall team and individual awards are presented on Sunday. A celebration will be held Saturday night.

It will be a busy weekend for western equestrian competitors as the ACE Reining Championships are taking place during what is also the third and final show in a series of open western shows put on by the IRHA and the PEI Western Horse Association (WHA). Outside of their required ACE reining classes ACE competitors will have a number of IRHA reining classes to choose from. The option to cross enter into further western performance classes with the WHA will also be available. The IRHA show is an open show and anyone wishing to compete may do so.

This is a fabulous opportunity for Atlantic riders. We encourage those interested in participating in the ACE Championships to get in touch with their respective provincial organizations.

Prince Edward Island reiners wishing to apply for the PEI ACE Reining Team must submit a declaration form and fee before their first qualifying show. Qualifying shows include the June (23/24) and July (21/22) IRHA shows, as well as any off-Island National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) shows. PEI qualifying criteria and declaration forms will be found on the Island Horse Council website in the coming weeks.

Entry forms as well as links to qualifying information will be available on the IRHA website in the weeks to come.
